Welcome cadet!

Small Acorns is a Star-Trek Roleplay that follows the lives, dreams and aspirations of the many cadets - both young and old - who attend the illustrious Starfleet Academy.

James Kirk, Jean-Luc Picard, Benjamin Sisko, Kathryn Janeway and more... All the great captains and admirals started out here; attended lectures, took part in training missions, made friends and, eventually, graduated.

What will your Academy story be?

The nights are drawing in and the weather is getting colder. For the first year cadets though, it's time to dig out the sunglasses, because they're off to a field trip to Mars! What will await the cadets when they get there? Only time will tell.

Back on Earth, the Preparatory School students have been extended an invitation to go and tour the main Academy campus. Will they take up the chance to go and see where they might end up in the future? And what will they think of it if they do?

The Academy Layout: Maps and Plans
« Thread Started on Jun 4, 2009, 6:06pm »

In this thread I'm going to lay out what each of the buildings on the academy campus looks like, exactly what buildings are on campus, and give you an overall campus map, so that you can see how the buildings related to one another, how big the gardens are... that kind of thing.

Now, drawing up these maps and such is going to take me a while, so expect this thread to be something that I add to over time. :)

To start with, I'll put up basic plans so I can get lots up quick. I'll see afterwards if I can put up more interesting images. My copy of Sims 3 arrived today (huzzah!) so maybe I'll be able to lay out some of the buildings on there to give you some 3D views. :)

The Academy Campus Map

The Barrack Blocks

There are a total of ten barrack blocks on campus. These run from A through to K (there is no I) and are referred to as "barrack A" or other letter appropriately.

Each block has 3, 4 or 5 floors, with 8 or 10 bedrooms on each floor, thus:

Barrack A-D : 5 floors, 10 rooms
Barrack E-F : 4 floors, 8 rooms
Barrack G-K : 3 floors, 10 rooms

A barrack with 10 rooms has 5 on each side of the building. One with 8 rooms has 4 on each side of the central corridor. All the floor except the ground floor in barracks A-F have small balconies.

Apart from the number of rooms, otherwise each floor in every block is laid out the same, thus;

Each room is laid out thus:

The communal lounge area at the end of the corridor is designed to be used by all the residents of the floor, but people from other barracks are equally welcome by invitation (they must be accompanied by someone from that floor). The lounge contains a music system, computer terminals, sofas, a replicator, some low tables and windows with views to three sides.

The Holo Centre

This building houses all the holodecks and holosuites for the Academy. Cadets can book the use of the holosuites, but the holodecks are reserved for training simulations and staff use only. The different between a holodeck and a holosuite is that a holodeck is bigger, with better functionality. There's nothing wrong with the holosuites though for every day use. ;)

Cadets can book their holosuites at the main booking office on the ground floor, or by request from the computer terminals which are around the Academy (in barrack lounges, the library and more).

Academic Buildings By Department

Engineering: Scott Building

Home to the largest lecture theatre on the entire Academy campus, and so plays host to some of the larger lectures, such as the Commandant's yearly inaugral address, and some first year classes.

The building is named after the famous Starfleet engineer, Montgomery Scott. A dedication plaque can be found in the building's entrance hallway.
