Elyse made her way towards the group slowly. She knew assignments were about to be handed out as she observed her surroundings nothing sticking out in her mind as extraordinary. Walking towards the group and sticking to the back she noticed a few of her fellow cadets go up and state there names. Though she stood still realizing that with the size of the group the Lieutenant if she was reading the Vulcan's pips correctly would probably be handing them out by roll call. Meaning it was rather illogical to walk up to her and introduce herself, and part of her hoped the Vulcan would understand this logic. So all she did was from the back a respectful small salute, which while normally reserved for captains she figured would be respectful of the officers position.
Though she realization that she really knew nothing was rolling in the back of her mind. For all she knew she was supposed to go introduce herself and copying others would probably be best. Not that it motivated her to move at all.
Taking advantage of hearing the Andorian's name being spoken again she did attempt to mouth the name in a slight whisper "Siriskajresth th’Zthel" that would be barely audible and mispronounced. She hoped no one heard it but did not really care as she went to looking back around at her surroundings. Hopefully the mission would be something useful, and even better if it had some part of manual labor as for some odd reason she was in the mood to actually do something with her hands. Mostly as no matter what she did not know she was usually good at putting things together and lifting things.
Assignments and groups of three. Well the numbers plainly did not seem to be working out for that, which was oddly fine by her. What was more than interesting was her name was not called, which meant she had a choice. Mention it loudly or wait till the others started, and grab her own padd. Hopefully this exercise did not really need three people as she planned the to go with the second idea. Mostly as pointing out that detail would never turn out well, and looking around she tried to go through everyone around to see who else was not called. Just in case she was not the only one, plus either way she would have to go up for her padd last. Or it would be obvious and one never pointed out a mistake by a superior if you could avoid it.

"Ready to rock and roll?" she asked her roommate. "Did you have a good flight over?"
Liz glanced over. Gina had somehow found her way next to her. "Hey." Liz greeted the other hybrid Klingon. "Good is a matter of perspective, I suppose." she glanced at the boy on the other side of her. "At least I wasn't stuck with Smooth over here." she muttered, almost under her breath.
Just then, the Vulcan became something more than a button-punching automaton- finally- and began to speak. "Cadets Zaynah and the'Zthel with team leader Radley. Cadets Burnham and Sullivan with team leader Helik. Cadets Storm and Sur'shess with team leader Em. Cadets Rider and Kalath with team leader Harper..."
Liz restrained a groan. Gina, she was okay with. But Storm?! Of all the people in the Academy, she had to get stuck with the one person she most longed to avoid. Great. She darted another glance at him, then turned back to Gina. "Team leader, lead on!" she said, a semi-playful grin coming over her features.

Richard listened patiently to the list of teams and wasn't if he should grin or say 'uh oh' in response to being with both Liz and Red, in which Red was leading. One thing was for certain. It wasn't going to be a dull experience. Richard sidled himself towards the two girls and held a controlled passive face.
"Reporting for duty, Sir." He said to Red, his lips bursting to curl into a grin and laugh his head off.

Gina's eyes widened a little as she realised exactly who she'd been put in a group with. Well, at least this wasn't going to be a boring assignment.
"Team leader, lead on!"
Gina rolled her eyes at her friend and roommate.
"Give over," she said, just before Richard appeared. She didn't like the look on his face one bit; it was evident that he was going to be enjoying himself just a little too much. Indeed, even as he tried to be serious he started laughing. "And you can hush and all," she said, not too sharply. As much as she wouldn't like to admit it, she was glad she'd ended up with people who she knew, and ones that she knew would work hard on whatever the assigment was that they'd be given.
"Wait here then," she said, squashing the butterflies she felt that came with the realisation of the fact that she was actually in charge of something. "I'll be back in a sec."
She walked over to the Vulcan lieutenant.
"Cadet Em, collecting assignment, sir," she said, politely.

K'Pau looked up and nodded at the cadet in front of her.
"Cadet Em," she said. "Your group will be headed to the terraforming laboratories. You are to meet with three of the staff there. On this PADD," she handed Gina a PADD, "you will find five questions and tasks to complete. See that they are done before you return."

OOC: This group should start a new thread for the assignment. You may play the terraforming staff as NPCs, and can invent the tasks as you like, as long as they involve finding out about how the planet was terraformed and why. Enjoy!

Gina nodded politely and took the PADD from K'Pau. The terraforming labs! How exciting. She couldn't wait to see what their tasks would involve.
"Thank you ma'am," she replied, then made her way with haste back over to Liz and Richard.
"We're headed for the terraforming labs," she said, grinning widely. "Come on, let's get a move on. The sooner we get there, the sooner we can start, and all that!" Giving them both a final smile, she turned and started off.

"He doesn't want to talk to me,... He made that very clear. He hates me, Zay."
Zaynah made a face, "hate is a strong word, Kath... I don't think he hates you." She glanced over at the Cardassian who was looking at the ground as if the ground had done something to spite him. "Even if it were true, you two still need to learn to work together," she whispered hurriedly as the Lieutenant began to speak agaon, "I mean, what if you have to--"
"Cadets Zaynah and the'Zthel with team leader Radley. Cadets Burnham and Sullivan with team leader Helik."
She grinned at Kathryn, "well, here's your chance," she laughed. Giving Kathryn's hand a squeeze, she continued, "it's not like you're going to be alone with him." Zaynah looked around, spotting her two teammates, "gotta go... good luck!"
Moving over to the'Zthel, she said, "I wonder what criteria they used to split us up."

"Hello stranger. How have you been as of late?"
He turned his head slowly, his eyes only seeing blond hair at first, and his heart skipped a beat. Then he saw who it was. "Nichole," he nodded, "I have been... better." He didn't want to rehash anything. All he wanted to do was get this assignment done so that he could continue his education. It seemed the longer he stayed in the Academy, the more things went wrong.
"Cadets Burnham and Sullivan with team leader Helik.
His head snapped in the Lieutenant's direction, hoping she had made a mistake and would go back and read from the 'real' list. After a long pause, he shook his head and said to Nichole, "lucky you." He stomped over to K'Pau to retrieve the PADD, giving Kathryn a sidelong glance.
"Cadet Helik Dakbar," he said for the second time today.

K'Pau nodded at the new cadet standing in front of her, and held out a PADD for him to take.
"Cadet Helik Dakbar," she repeated. "Your group will be going to the quarries, specifically quarry Beta Seven. Your assignment relates to the geology of Mars. Find and retrieve the five information beacons, locations as detailed on this PADD."
Tag: Dakbar
OOC: This group should start a new thread for the assignment. You can have the information beacons be anywhere within quarry beta seven, which is a large quarry, flooded up to half way, with some underground and some overground caves and caverns. The sides are steep and dangerous, but could be climbed with appropriate equipment. You can collect any equipment you may need from the supply outpost near the quarries, which are about a fifteen minute walk from the shuttleport. Have fun!

It did not take her long to realize that she was likely the only name not called. So that meant she should just try to blend in with some of the others, which meant she looked for who was close to her. After all it was illogical not to put someone in a group. She tilted her head towards one of the officers in the direction of that group. Hopefully the Vulcan Lieutenant would catch on, that she was joining that group. What she was really hoping for was if she was wrong someone would mention it rather quickly, as she realized Abdel's name also was not called. Though she could not see him in the crowd in her quick look around.
Elyse walked over to where Zaynah was and said " Hope you don't mind if I join you. "
Her name not being called made her more unsure than she was when she realized she could not watch the pilot and predict his actions. With a small breath she tried to get over her nerves as they would just no do. Mostly as what would have been most logical would have walking up to the Lieutenant directly. However she learned it was best to walk up with superiors with a solution, not asking what one should do.
Then she calmly added " My name was forgotten and only logical I join some group. Seemed the numbers worked out badly. " Not that she really cared if she ended up in a group or not. Actually part of her much preferred working alone so being in no group at all would suit her just fine. However she doubted she would have gotten away with that idea.
OCC: Joining group Zaynah, the'Zthel & Radley as name was not called unless others show up, and can be reassigned. Left things sorta open for either in my post.

Kathryn couldn't believe what the Lieutenant had just announced. She was supposed to be working in a team with Dakbar? And he was in charge?
Please, someone kill me now.
Zaynah in particular was no help, and as she flitted off to find her compatriots Kathryn looked helplessly after her. Some people got to be with their friends. Why didn't she? Someone, somewhere, hates me.
She looked around, her eyes finding Dakbar easily amongst the crowd. Just as he walked off to collect their assignment, she drew level with Nichole.
"Hi," she said, half-heartedly. "I'm really sorry. I don't think this is going to be much fun for anyone."

He nodded to the Lieutenant, then made his way back to Nichole. His step faltered as he saw Kathryn had already joined her. "We are to go to a quarry," he said, looking only at Nichole, "but first we need to gather some equipment, then walk to the area." He tapped on the PADD, "we'll need items for climbing, it appears, and probably some equipment for underwater dives." He knew they had been trained on such equipment already in the gymnasium pool. This would be the first time out in the field, though.
"Let's go then," he said to Nichole, completely ignoring Kathryn. His long stridesstarted chewing up the fifteen minute walk.
End Dakbar - Continued in Quarry.

Cadets Rider and Kalath with team leader Harper..." "Team leaders, collect your PADDs now, then depart with your teams to your designated locations."
Say what?! Sharpay hadn't been expecting to lead anyone. She lightly shrugged. At least she knew one person in her group. She quickly went up to the lieutenant to collect the PADD. After that she'd have to search out the others, unless they sought her out first.

Nichole snapped to attention when the lieutenant spoke. Personally Nichole was quite pleased when she learned whom she was grouped with, however observation stated that the other two felt differently. Seemed liked they wanted to be around anyone but eachother. Dakbar hadn't addressed Kathryn at all, and Kathryn had started out with an apology.
"It's okay." Nichole said to Kathryn with a warm smile. "Things are bound to get better, come on."
Nichole gently patted Kathryn on the back, and followed as their team leader, Dakbar led the way. There was no doubt that Dakbar had been a good choice for team leader, but something said this was going to be a long mission.
End Nichole.

As Dakbar strided off into the distance, Kathryn glanced at Nichole, glad at least that the other girl was there. Imagine if they'd just been paired together? It seemed that Dakbar wasn't even going to acknowledge her presence there, let alone treat her decently. How were they supposed to be a team if he carried on like this?
Nichole's words of comfort were well meant, but she couldn't help feeling them a little ill placed. How could she say things were going to get better? The only way Kathryn thought she'd feel better now was if she fell into the quarry and drowned.
Sighing, she trudged off after the others. What a fun day this is going to be.
End Kathryn
