((If you find any inconsistencies/stuff that doesn’t make sense, I’d love it if you let me know. I’m assuming, after re-reading the rules several times – I don’t like breaking rules, even accidentally – that I am allowed two characters per year (Miral and Kalath), so I hope this is correct. Looking forward to playing this character, a lot.))
Character's Name: Kalath Da’Kar
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Race: Cardassian
Birthplace: Delmok Nor Starbase (yes, I made it up; see bio)
Career track: Operations or Engineering (he’ll be gold, but he’s trying to decide between these two)
Avatar: i26.tinypic.com/r2s4tk.png (The picture is Hogue, but the young image is perfectly fitting for him, and Hogue appeared in only one episode, so I hope it's suitable).
Physical Profile:
Kalath Da’kar stands at 5’9”, and weighs roughly 173 pounds. He is fully Cardassian in blood. His eyes are a soft brown. His black hair falls to the mid-back of his neck, curling under as it meets this point. It is styled so that it partially covers his ears. He keep it slicked back, and trims it – obviously – to Federation codes. His forehead is free of bangs, revealing the “spoon” upon his forehead. When he is not talking, his mouth is usually slightly open – not in a very noticeable way, though it is a habit – revealing his teeth. He rarely is seen out of uniform, though he tends to dress rather formally when he is not in uniform. Out of uniform, you’ll usually see him in a favourite: a two-piece brown suit with a black shirt underneath, and dark brown boots.
Personality:
Kalath is an extremely thorough person. He tends to consider what might go wrong before thinking what might go right – partially because he is uncertain of himself, and has always found others to be better than him at what they do. Regardless, he wants to be the best he can, and believes he can excel. He loves to tinker with things, and all types of technology fascinate him. He likes sleek and new things, but he loves old things as well, and marvels at how people lived long ago. His secondary interest is history, especially Cardassian history. He is naturally very organised, and he also puts excelling above all else. He can do many things at once, a natural multi-tasker. Though, he has been known to lock himself up if he has a lot to do.
Kalath is a trustworthy friend, and once you get even closer as a friend, he becomes dedicated to you, sometimes clingy; this is because he was so isolated during his younger years, that he longed for companionship. He is good with keeping secrets, though he only does this for friends – and for himself (he doesn’t like talking about his past, though he has revealed it all to the Academy staff, not liking to be untrustworthy). He is a very quiet individual, preferring to stay off to himself, and work on the things he enjoys, such as electronics, or his artwork. He is a skilled artist. He is always trying to improve on his skills. Despite being very quiet, if you get him going on something, he can talk almost endlessly.
He isn’t really the adventurous type. He hopes that after he graduates, he is assigned to Deep Space Nine.
Background and History:
Kalath’s grandfather – Gul Liope Asden – was a Cardassian officer of some renown. He had a daughter – Erida Asden – who was an agent of the Obsidian Order. Her partner in the Order was Nageel Da’Kar. Eventually, the two began to show attractions to each other. They were assigned to a Nor-class station belonging to the Order. And thus, it was upon Delmok Nor that Kalath was born. He was raised and educated on the station; he was to become a member of the Obsidian Order. Though his parents wanted him to become a field agent, he found that he enjoyed working with technology more – working alien devices, fixing things that needed attention, and the other duties of an engineer. Due to pressure from his parents, though, he pursued the curriculum they wanted for him.
Unfortunately, when the Obsidian Order fell, his parents dying in the fleet the Order had organised. At the time, he was only 12, and couldn’t fend for himself. Thus he was essentially an orphan. Due to his capabilities with technology, he managed to shakily fly himself away on a small shuttlecraft, which he took to leave Cardassian space. He ended up on a neutral alien planet, where he made a living of sorts, as a youth. Partially, he lived on his Obsidian Order training; he was very sneaky and dexterous, and he stole to get what he needed. Eventually, he tired of this life, because what he really wanted to do was tinker with things.
He asked around, and someone suggested Starfleet. He doubted that he would get in, especially after he learned the requirements. But he asked someone to take him to a Federation starbase anyway; they ended up taking him to the retro-fitted Cardassian station, Deep Space Nine. He was thoroughly questioned, before a Starfleet Commander decided he was trustworthy and capable, and sent in the letter. Eventually, he learned he was accepted, and took the exams, passing them. He made it in on his first try, and passed the summer classes. From there, he was sent to Earth...

Sample Roleplay:
The first thing Kalath Da’Kar noticed about Earth was that it was so lush. Sure, California was a dry state, but it was nothing like the holo-images of Cardassia Prime that he had once utilised at Delmok Nor. It was pleasantly warm out here, at least, but he could be certain winters would be bitter for him, as would the temperature inside the Academy. But, since his physical reaction to temperature was something he couldn’t help, as a Cardassian, they were assisting him with it. And he knew it would be worth it.
The Cardassian had been informed there was another of his kind at the Academy: Helik Dakbar. He wondered what the fellow Cardassian was like, and if he could possibly be his friend. Kalath assumed he would be suspicious. After all, he was a Cardassian. As for the others, he was sure they wouldn’t mind him, as long as they didn’t find him annoying. But how could he be annoying? He was so quiet.
Terrans were such interesting creatures. There were so many of them at Starfleet. This planet – Earth – had once been a very insignificant planet, he’d read, until a man named Dr. Cochran had made a warp-capable ship, and Vulcans just happened to notice it. Earth’s first contact had begun a chain of events that led to the four races – Tellarites, Andorians, Vulcans, and Terrans – forming the Federation. What would have happened if the Federation hadn’t come into existance? What would have happened with the Cardassian Union?
He couldn’t be certain, for sure...but he knew that it did exist here and now, and he was going to be a part of it. To think, he had once been training to become an agent for the Obsidian Order, a rather violent and underhanded people – and now, he was going to pursue his dreams at Starfleet Academy. It was ironic, unfortunately, that their meddling had partially led to his parents’ death...but it was probably something they couldn’t help, and he understood.
((Hopefully that makes sense)).
